In this Information and Communication
age, the way we live, how we run our
daily activities, manage government
affairs and relate to one another is
greatly influenced by the computer and
the Internet. For the past years we have
been doing a wonderful job as civil
society organizations in different
activities but the outcome of our
efforts remain invisible in our local
communities not to talk of the global
world. This could be due to the
following reasons:
-
Lack of credibility as a result of
poor or no communication
-
The engagement in individual actions
geared at promoting self
-
Ignorance of the Technology of the
time
-
Little or no funds to invest in
these technologies
In a meeting held at I-Vission
International with its partners, these
issues were brought to the table. How
can the civil society take advantage of
the more than 1 million Internet users
in Cameroon and 2.5 billion worldwide to
promote their activities?
After a serious debate we arrived at
the following resolutions:
-
We need to build the capacity of
civil society organizations on the
History, governance and future of
the Internet, the Web2.0 and online
safety mechanisms and empower them
with necessary applications,
-
Network and create a visible and
credible web presence,
-
Equip
organization with necessary
Applications (programs) to manage
their activities
-
Train them on
basic online security mechanisms
-
Put in place a
social network with last minute web
technology to promote the activities
of civil society organizations,
-
Create a think
tank or a virtual discussion club to
deal with top issues in the society
I-Vission International took the
responsibility which falls in its
strategic plan of action for
2011-2013 to organize training workshops
regularly through out the ten regions of
Cameroon
